New Teacher Orientation

New Teacher Orientation Required for NEW Teachers!

Registration: FREE for New and Sponsored Teachers! All others are $10.00 per person.  

This workshop is required for teachers new to the Rouge Education Project and recommended for veteran teachers who would like to share their experience.  Come and learn about the resources available through the project and network with other teachers.  This is a great opportunity for teachers to have questions answered by project staff and others.  Featured speakers will include Joe Rathbun, an environmental quality analyst with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, who will speak about what schools monitor and what the data mean, and Dave Bydlowski, a consultant with the Wayne County Math and Science Center, who will speak about how to meet the new Grade Level Content Expectations through the Rouge Education Project.

How to start a Schoolyard Habitat- NEW Workshop for 2011!

If your school is interested in constructing a Schoolyard Habitat to utilize as an outdoor classroom but doesn't know where to start, then this is the workshop for you. Join us and hear from local experts, experienced teachers and others as they share their knowledge of outdoor classroom construction with you. Learn tips and tricks to success while working on a tight budget. Teachers, administrators, parents or other interested parties are welcome to attend this workshop.


Teacher and CSA LaMotte Water Quality Monitoring Workshop

Teacher & CSA LaMotte Water Quality Monitoring Workshop Required for New Teachers!

Time: 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Registration and light breakfast 8:00-8:30 a.m.,
Lunch also provided
Location: Tentative- Dunckel Middle School, 32800 W 12 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48334
Registration: New and Sponsored Teachers FREE! All Others: $40.00.
Teachers may bring 2 students!

This hands-on workshop covers all the water quality monitoring tests that schools will conduct on their field trip to the Rouge River on Monitoring Day.  Participants will learn how to conduct chemical tests using LaMotte test kits, conduct a physical stream survey, and complete a biological assessment of the river using benthic macroinvertebrates. You must attend this workshop to have your data certified in the annual data report. Please be sure to dress for working outdoors! This workshop is for schools that use LaMotte brand chemical testing equipment.
