Give. Restore. Enjoy.

As a Friends of the Rouge sponsor, you have the opportunity to give a transformational gift to support our mission. Your sponsorship will strengthen critical restoration and education programs and continue the tradition of Friends of the Rouge staff and volunteers working together to restore and protect our river, streams and lakes. Your sponsorship will support clean, healthy water in the Rouge River and the Great Lakes.

What happens to the Rouge River affects you. What you do to sponsor FOTR outreach efforts affects our future.

Friends of the Rouge works to prevent pollution and raise awareness of how the daily actions of residents impact water quality by engaging individuals, families, students, corporate groups, and community leaders in hands-on activities to clean and restore our river. The organization brings vastly diverse groups of people together and generates measurable change.

A few of our many outreach efforts you'd be supporting

  • Tens of thousands of volunteers have participated in Rouge Rescue events since 1986, allowing the program to evolve from trash pick-up to streambank stabilization, invasive removal, and other quality restoration projects
  • Tens of thousands of students have participated in the Rouge Education Project for the past 30 years. This comprehensive environmental education project was the first of its kind, and has helped empower young people with knowledge to address environmental issues in their communities now and to think critically as adults.
  • Thousands of volunteers have participated in Bug Hunts and monitoring activities, collecting data that is used by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to monitor the progress of restoration efforts.
  • Work continues on developing the Rouge River Water Trail, a recreation and economic asset for our community and region.
  • Beginning as a pilot program in 2015, the Rain Gardens to the Rescue Program has worked with dozens of homeowners throughout the city of Detroit to install rain gardens that, in total, prevent thousands of gallons of storm water from overwhelming the sewer system. These grassroots efforts are spreading throughout the city and promote green infrastructure individuals can install that directly improve water quality.
