2020 Spring Bug Hunt in Quarantine

Preventing the spread of the coronavirus kept us from holding the Spring Bug Hunt last Saturday April 18. So we went live! Sally Petrella and her husband Paul Stark bring you this 15 minute video showcasing the bug hunt process. In normal years, team leaders and volunteers like you go out every year to track water quality throughout the Rouge.

Several Team Leaders took the time to visit sites on the river, check out what they found.

Doug & Sandy visited the Middle Branch

Doug & Sandy visited the Middle Branch near their house and sampled. They found damselfly nymphs, a gilled snail and a frog.

Julia visited the Franklin Branch

Julia visited the Franklin Branch after dropping off groceries to her Grandpa. You might have noticed the river while enjoying cider and donuts here at the Franklin Cider Mill. The heavily armored streambank and parking lot with no buffer zone of plants is not good for the river.

Tamika and her son Ryan visited the Main Branch

Tamika and her son Ryan visited the Main Branch near Nine Mile and found lots of construction.
Hope this silt fence is protecting the river!
Raccoon tracks!
