Description

Thank you for your interest in taking action for a healthier Rouge River! This small rain garden is a colorful spot in Claude Allison Park.

How do rain gardens improve water quality in your Rouge River? They collect, absorb, & filter stormwater coming off of the pavement. This reduces the amount of polluted rainwater that rushes into the storm drain, dumping into the river. Rain gardens minimize pollution, erosion, and flooding! Plus, they are planted with beautiful native plants that provide a home for songbirds, butterflies and other pollinators.

You can help maintain this garden by participating in one of the Spruce Up events. At these events, you may be removing weeds, picking up trash, mulching, planting more native plants, and/or doing other tasks as needed.

Taking care of this garden helps the native plants to do their job – improving water quality in your Rouge River, providing habitat for songbirds and pollinators, and looking beautiful! Thank you for joining your Friends of the Rouge!
