Sacred Grounds™ is a National Wildlife Federation (NWF) program that recognizes congregations, houses of worship, and faith communities who both create wildlife habitat and actively link faith practices and caring for the environment.

In Southeast Michigan, NWF has partnered with Friends of the Rouge and Sierra Club Michigan Chapter to enhance the environmental and human health benefits by transforming these wildlife habitats into rain gardens. Managing stormwater at large properties, such as houses of worship, also saves money when they receive green credits for these practices off of their water and sewer bill in the City of Detroit.

Sacred Grounds Sites:

  • Detroit Hope
  • Christ the King
  • St. Suzanne
  • Marygrove
  • Gesu
  • Bethany Lutheran
