Green Frogs and Gray Treefrogs Make Their Appearance
As the weather warms up, the larger and later calling frog species are calling for mates around the watershed. Frog and Toad Surveyors are reporting hearing the “burst of a trill” call of gray treefrogs from way up in the trees as well as the banjo string twang of the green frogs from permanent ponds. Both of these species do not generally call until temperatures are above 60 at night. Attendees at the May 13 Group Listen got to hear both species. The final Group Listen was held at Maybury State Park in Northville, a park that protects abundant healthy wetlands at the headwaters of the Johnson Creek where frogs and toads can thrive.

FOTR’s Watershed Ecologist Sally Petrella presented in the Community Science session to share how FOTR’s collaboration with regulators provides needed data on road salt and PFAS to assist in the listing of impaired Rouge River stream sections for remediation.
