Site Coordinator: Rosina Newton, Restoration Assistant, Friends of the Rouge

Project description:

This beautiful rain garden helps to reduce the flooding that used to happen on this site at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP) complex at Canton High School. Just like other rain gardens, it also contains beautiful native flowering plants that provide habitat for pollinators. With their deep roots, these plants really absorb the rainwater!

Join us as we spruce up this garden for the season! We will cut back the winter stalks from the plants and spread their seeds back into the garden. We will also be adding mulch, to help prevent weeds and beautify the garden. We will perform other maintenance tasks, as needed. We will be joined by the P-CEP Eco Club, among others.

Have questions or have accessibility-related needs? Please email Rosina at RNewton@therouge.org

Workday location: Canton High School, 8415 N Canton Center Rd, Canton, MI 48187 –  Registered volunteers will receive a parking/meeting location map

Questions or Accessibility-Related Needs? Please email Volunteer Coordinator Rosina Newton – RNewton@therouge.org

Accessibility & Difficulty: This rain garden is next to a paved courtyard area on the high school campus. We will be performing a variety of tasks, ranging from low to medium effort — standing, bending, lifting 5-15 pounds  to somewhat strenuous work — bending, kneeling, lifting 15-30 pounds (e.g. moving wheelbarrows of mulch) No previous experience necessary. All tools will be provided. Drinking water and snacks provided.

If your group would like to join in this work day to benefit the Rouge River and P-CEP, please email Rosina Newton RNewton@therouge.org for group registration.
