Ladies Night in the Garden: Enjoy an evening out in the garden! Meet up with old Friends and make new Friends, while making a positive impact on the health of your Rouge River. We’ll start out getting some fresh air in the garden before heading downtown for more social time – IRL!

Site Coordinator: Jacqueline Kristofik, Friends of the Rouge

Project description: You can join us for a fun evening in the PARC Rain Gardens this spring – and make a difference for a cleaner Rouge River!

Planted in 2021, the PARC rain gardens are now growing beautifully. The 23,000 square feet of gardens collect and store up to 250,000 gallons of stormwater for each rain, letting the rainwater soak into the soil rather than running off into a storm drain. Rain gardens reduce flooding. Rain gardens filter out pollutants from stormwater within our Rouge River watershed. These native Michigan gardens also provide habitat to songbirds and pollinators – plus they’re beautiful!

Your action this evening supports these hard-working gardens in doing their job!

Activity: To keep the gardens beautiful and the native plants flourishing, we may be:

  • pulling out weeds
  • cutting back winter stalks and spreading seeds
  • clearing rain garden sediment traps
  • removing trash
  • doing other tasks, as needed

Volunteer day location:  Plymouth Arts & Recreation Complex (PARC) – – 650 Church St #209, Plymouth, MI 48170

Registered volunteers will be emailed specific meeting/parking instructions a few days prior to their scheduled workday.

Accessibility & Difficulty: Activities will involve light to medium effort, standing, walking, bending, and lifting 5-15 pounds on even ground and uneven ground.
