Earth Day at the PARC!

Come out to Plymouth Arts & Recreation Complex (PARC) to celebrate Earth Day with Friends of the Rouge and our fellow PARC tenants! Join us as we kick off our summer volunteer season by working together in our native gardens. We’ll have music, crafts, education, and even more fun to come! You won’t want to miss our first annual event with incredible organizations and businesses in your community and discovering our shared commitment to sustainability and making Earth Day EVERY day!

You don’t have to volunteer to join in – Everyone is welcome!
But you might not want to miss out on this hands-on, fun, and rewarding opportunity. The rain gardens will thank you!

Come for the volunteering, stay for more fun!

Project description: You can join us for a fun day in the PARC Rain Gardens – and make a difference for a cleaner Rouge River!

Planted in 2021, the PARC rain gardens are now growing beautifully. The 23,000 square feet of gardens collect and store up to 250,000 gallons of stormwater for each rain, letting the rainwater soak into the soil rather than running off into a storm drain. Rain gardens reduce flooding. Rain gardens filter out pollutants from stormwater within our Rouge River watershed. These native Michigan gardens also provide habitat to songbirds and pollinators – plus they’re beautiful!

Your action today supports these hard-working gardens in doing their job!

You will have two opportunities to volunteer during Earth Day at the PARC:
10am – 11am
12pm – 1pm

Activity: To keep the gardens beautiful and the native plants flourishing, we may be:

  • pulling out weeds
  • cutting back winter stalks and spreading seeds
  • clearing rain garden sediment traps
  • removing trash
  • doing other tasks, as needed
