In fall 2018, Friends of the Rouge worked with boy scouts and families from Hulsing Elementary to install a large, 1200 square foot rain garden. Now, with your help, we’ll wrap up the rain garden! Rain gardens are gardens with a job to do: soaking up the rain! The Hulsing rain garden will soak up as much as 5,500 gallons of stormwater each time it rains, helping to reduce flooding for neighbors who live downstream and improving the health of Tonquish Creek.

Work tasks for the day include:
Planting wild strawberry
Removal of silt fence to allow water to enter the rain garden
Adjustment of rain garden inlet
Spreading gravel

This project has been funded in part through the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) Nonpoint Source Program by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
